Juicing - detoxing, fasting, dieting- yay or ney!?

 

As we all know there has been some hectic weather over the last few days, which has lead me to eating KFC, Sizzler and even worse crap!.. Well technically it didn’t “LEAD” me to eat horrible food, I lead myself, but it was just the easiest option as I had no power, no fresh food and honestly just couldn’t be f*cked cooking in such lazy bed weather lol

 

So after going on a fast food binge over the weekend I feel like absolute rubbish! I honestly was hungry all day yesterday, even though I had just stuffed my face with pizza.. yep.. I NEEDED ice cream after!

It’s so funny that when you eat bad all you do is crave bad food, when usually I don’t really crave anything, I’m just happy doing my thing!

SO what better time for a body cleanse than right now!

 

I decided to start a 3 day Juice cleanse (I’ve never done one before so it should be very interesting!). Lots of my clients and friends have tried it and love it so I thought I may aswell give it a go and document it for the rest of you to follow and try if you wish <3

So firstly I had to do my research, what I found was:

 

Through years of eating unhealthy foods, drinking alcohol, soda and coffee etc, we have accumulated a number of unhealthy toxins in our livers, our colons, and in our digestive systems, and they undermine our good health and our bodies' overall performance. That is why going on a detox diet (i.e juice cleanse) from time to time can be very important in helping to restore good health.

Too many toxins in our blood, in our vital organs, and throughout our bodies become like the dirty water in a polluted stream, foul and disgusting.  This creates a fertile environment for sickness and disease. A detox will allow our systems to eliminate some of these poisons and will leave us not only feeling and looking healthier, but we actually will be healthier too.

 

  • ·      Natural diuretic, which means they activate the kidneys
  • ·      Rich source of vitamins & minerals
  • ·      Flushes out toxins from your blood & organs

 

 

 

Each vegetable also has its own unique benefit to the body also, e.g

 

1) Beetroot -

Beetroot contains betalains, compounds that fight inflammation and support your detox by neutralizing toxins and making them water-soluble and easily flushed from the body.

 

2)Broccoli:

 Broccoli is loaded with vitamin A and C. It also contains a compound call Sulforaphane which is an anti-microbial compound that will stimulate the cells in creating enzymes to fight cancer.

 

4)Spinach: Although it is true that spinach has an above average amount of iron in it, it is also true that it contains many other nutrients that make it a nutrient rich vegetable. It is also very high in magnesium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E.

 

8)Carrots: Carrots are best known for improving our vision because they contain large amounts of beta-carotene witch our bodies convert to vitamin A, which too little of can result in bad vision. Carrots are also a good source of fiber and Vitamin K.

 

10)Celery: Many people only think of this vegetable as a low calorie food used for weight loss. While this is true, celery is loaded with potassium, calcium, Vitamins C and A as well as magnesium.

 

 

To sweeten the flavor of your vegetable juice I got tips to add in apples, oranges, pine apples, kiwi fruits etc, which are all high in vitamins & fiber, not to mention they can prevent and ease some ailments such as the following:

1. Colon cancer

2. High blood pressure

3. High cholesterol

4. Diabetes

5. Obesity

6. Boost metabolism

7. Prevents constipation

8. Aids in weight loss

 

Along with all the pro’s I did read a lot of con’s also!

Like feeling light headed from lack of sugar/caffeine/sodium and many critics say that the whole “theory” of a detox is a scam as your body naturally detoxes itself. Also that if you go without solids for too long it actually can slow down your metabolism.

 

BUT I’ve heard too much about Juicing to not try it.. and to get things straight I’m not cleansing to lose weight.. at all, I know all too well that losing weight involves clean eating and regular exercise!

I am just so interested to see how my body feels after my 3 days of cleansing, especially after how crappy I’m feeling at the moment!

And at least this way you girls can all see first hand how It all works and I can give you my opinion when you ask me :D

 

OK lets DO THIS THING!!!

 

Day 1 –

Breakfast

Screwed it already! I woke up so hungry so I ate my yoghurt and pura veda.

Haha talk about self control lol

 

BUT atleast having the day gave me time to orginise and plan what I would be drinking tomorrow, I even researched which juice combos are best for different times of the day! PRODUCTIVE ;)

I also made the decision that I would snack on little meals as I didn’t want my body to go into complete shock once I started eating solids again. And nothing makes me more irritable than being hungry!

 

Time to have a warm shower, paint my nails, watch the new season of Packed to the Rafters and have an early night before my big juicing debut tomorrow!!!!

WISH ME LUCK!!!

ok... NOW LET'S DO THIS! 

DAY 1

 

Breakfast:

2 carrots, 2 celery stalks, 1 beetroot, handful of spinach, 1 wedge of red cabbage, half a cucumber, lemon, 1 apple and 1 orange

YUM!

 

I made sure I had 1litre of water while I was doing emails and what not in between juices also, I read that it was very important to drink a lot of water whilst cleansing…  I’ve peed like 8732 times already haha … its going to be a loooong day!

 

Juice #2 THIS JUICE IS MY FAVE SO FAR!

2 carrots, 1 apple, handful of spinach, 5 strawberries, 4 celery sticks, little bit of ginger .

TASTES AMAZING! The strawberries make it so sweet!

 

Juice #3 (midday)

Handful of Spinach, 1 apple, 1 wedge of red cabbage, 2 celery  sticks, 1 lemon wedge, 1 beetroot, 1 wedge of mango

 

Juice #4

(afternoon tea)

2 beetroots,  3 celery sticks, ginger, 1 orange, 1 mango wedge,  lemon wedge

(tastes like ass!)

 

Juice #5

Kale, spinach, red cabbage, pineapple, kiwi fruit, ginger, beetroot , broccoli

 

So after spending the whole day on juice I was feeling really tired and lethargic so for dinner I had a small bowl of fresh prawn stir fry ,

And a massive broccoli, spinach, kale, carrot, celery, lemon, ginger beetroot & apple juice.

 

Little did I know that I was actually coming down with a chest infection, hence how low and tired I felt..

Slept HORRIBLY that night, sniffling and coughing all over the place!

 

DAY 2

Because of how sick I felt I was actually happy to be juicing for breakfast, my throat was so sore!

Firstly I had a glass of hot water, lemon, cinnamon, ginger and honey so soothe my throat then made myself a red cabbage, beetroot, lemon, ginger, celery pineapple, red grapes, strawberry and carrot juice.

 

Juice #2

Apple, orange, carrot, lemon, kale, spinach, kiwi fruit, pear, pineapple and red grapes

 

Juice#3

Orange, Lemon, Ginger, Celery & kale

 

Juice #4

Handful of Spinach, 1 apple, 1 wedge of red cabbage, 2 celery sticks, 1 lemon wedge, 1 beetroot, 1 wedge of mango

 

I had a lot of green tea this day because of how sick I felt and spent most of the day sleeping  & hoping I don’t feel like a zombie for too much longer.

 

 

DAY 3

 

Finally feeling good again, THANK GOD!

I had my shoot for Freerider MX so the last thing I needed was to be feeling second hand.

I woke up and had an amazing Spinach, Kale, Red cabbage, Cucumber, Pineapple, Carrot, Lime, Lemon, Ginger, Mango, Celery & strawberry juice <3

 

Juice #2

Rockmelon, beetroot, red cabbage, pineapple, lemon, celery

 

 

Juice #3

Carrot, orange, apple, kale, spinach

 

Juice #4

Kiwi, orange, celery, red cabbage, beetroot, ginger,  spinach, kale, apple

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So after 3 days of  juicing I must admit I do like doing it, however I would steer you clear of doing a juice “diet” or “detox” there isn’t really much point to JUST juicing. You’re body needs food! MY BODY NEEDS FOOD!! But in saying that, although I have finished my little challenge I have still been juicing everyday in between meals.. I really like it and my body is loving it! With a balanced diet & regular exercise juicing is a great idea!

So try something different, this afternoon go out and get yourself a vegetable & fruit juice, I guarantee you will love it <3

WELCOME 2013 <3

After a good few months of no blogging, finally this week I found some motivation to get back into it <3

One of my new 6 Week Challenge Bombshells was telling me how she used to read my blogs every week and that they used to inspire her to get up and train & to treat her body better! Hearing that made my day AND I hope this new blog will make yours too :D

 

HAPPY NEW YEAR you amazing people!

Last year went so quickly I could barely keep up. One minute I was training my girls at Legal Muscle, making personal goals for my modeling career & trying to think of ways that I could improve Infamous Physiques 

 

NEK MINNIT ..

-I have my very own (very PINK) studio based in Hawthorne, Brisbane  (It’s so god damn beautiful <3)

-I have been recognized  & shot with brands like Loose Kid Industries, Nena & Pasadena, Iikoy, Jetpilot, Rockwear, Hot Bodz Active wear.
Lucky enough to now be apart of the International Monster Energy family & now managed to hit the cover of not only Australian magazines but INTERNATIONAL mags too!!

-My client base is better than ever (and the girls are working even harder than before!!)

WOW 2013 has started off with a freaking BANG!!

 

Enough about me though, all this blabber is making me wonder 

How many of you have conquered the goals you set for yourself last year?

If you haven’t, why do you think that is?

Being a personal trainer I get my fair share of time wasters.. and I mean that in the nicest way possible!!

The girls who are inspired for a week and then just go back to their bad habits as of the weekend..

The girls that winge and bitch that they’re  not “seeing results” when all they do is a personal training session a week and spend the other 99% of the time eating shit and doing nothing.

If something is important to you, you will make it happen!

If your SICK of being 10kgs heavier than you were last year, you will bloody run & eat well until your feeling confident again!

 

Why do we complicate things and make them seem harder than they are?

Why do we look at “clean eating” as a chore?

Why can’t we just look at what needs to be done, and DO IT?

 

 

 

Girls – you need prioritize!

No ones life is any easier than anyone else’s, regardless of how many kids you have, or how many hours you work, or how much money you “cant spend” on healthy food There is always someone out there with a tougher situation than you who is pushing through it because they would rather feel happy and healthy than flabby and miserable!

“If it’s important you will find a way, If not, you will find an excuse” 


Don’t dull yourself down because your lethargic, everyone deserves to shine, you just have to put a little bit of work in!

You are so worth it <3

 

On other topics, Last year I was obsessing a little over coconut oil.. well I’M EVEN MORE OBSESSED NOW!

I somehow came up with putting it in my hair and on my skin, I heard it was very moisturizing, and so it is!

My hair loved it!! So if you have time this week try it, I use Fiji Gold coconut oil and I leave it in my hair as a mask for about 20 mins and after my hair not only smells like a coconut rough but it is so shiny and bouncy.. I love it!

Another little discovery is coconut milk yoghurt, you can buy it from any health food store. Organic, Gluten free, lactose free & preservative free mix in a little bit of Pura Veda and there you have a perfect way to start your day :D
